Adobe Premiere

From Mac apps, in the HARD wiki · Updated
This article is about the Adobe Premiere app for Mac. For every app, see Mac apps.

Adobe Premiere is a video editor for cutting clips, mixing sound, adjusting colour and adding titles and captions. It’s made by Adobe, based in the United States.

Criminals have used its name in fake downloads or scams, so get it only from creativecloud.adobe.com.

What it is

Previously called Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere is used to edit videos and combine footage, sound, titles and effects. Adobe sells it by subscription.

It works with video, audio and image files on the Mac. It requests access to Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders. Microphone access supports audio recording; camera access and control of other apps support some linked workflows and plug-ins.

Adobe distributes it through Creative Cloud and publishes security updates. It needs an Adobe account and an internet connection for activation. Adobe recommends keeping it updated to address security flaws.

Who makes it

Adobe is a software company founded in 1982 and based in San Jose, California. Its legal name is Adobe Inc.. Its website is adobe.com.

Adobe makes other software with flaws that attackers have used. Its page in Companies lists them.

Is it the real one?

Every Mac app carries a signature from the developer who made it. Apple checks who the developer is before handing out the certificate, and macOS refuses to open an app whose signature has been tampered with.

HARD hasn’t yet recorded the signature on a real copy of Adobe Premiere. Its Mac app shows who signed the copy you have.

Its bundle ID, the name macOS knows it by, is com.adobe.PremierePro or com.adobe.PremierePro.26 or com.adobe.PremierePro.25 or com.adobe.PremierePro.24 or com.adobe.PremierePro.23 or com.adobe.PremierePro.22 or com.adobe.PremierePro.15 or com.adobe.PremierePro.14. Download it only from creativecloud.adobe.com, not from an ad or a link someone sends you.

Fakes. In October and early November 2024, malicious GitHub repositories advertised software or cracks for Premiere Pro and other apps while distributing Banshee Stealer for Mac. Intego reported in January 2025 that some repositories were still distributing the information-stealing malware.

What it connects to

In normal use, Adobe Premiere talks to these places on the internet. A firewall that asks before apps connect, like the one in HARD’s Mac app, will show them.
