Cash App scams: support never asks you to pay
Someone from “Cash App support” who asks for your sign-in code, PIN or a payment, or a stranger offering free money if you send a little first, is a scammer.
Cash App says its support will never ask you to send a payment, make a purchase, share your sign-in code or PIN, install a remote-access app or do a “test” transaction. Cash App payments are instant, so once money goes it is very hard to get back.
Cash App is used in the US and the UK. The reporting routes below are US ones; in the UK, report it to Report Fraud.

Cash App: Your account has been flagged and $750 is on hold. To release it, verify your identity with the code we just sent and complete a $1 test payment to $CashSupport-Verify.
Check the one you got
Paste what you were sent. HARD checks it in this browser with the same rules as the Is this legit? check in its apps. Nothing you paste leaves this page.
How to tell it’s fake
“Cash Support will never require you to send a payment, make a purchase”

- Real support is reached from inside the app. A call, text or DM from “Cash App” is the scammer.

- Flips, giveaways and “release your funds” offers that need a payment first. Cash App runs sweepstakes only from its verified @CashApp account.
- A remote-access app.
- Cash App says support never asks you to install one, such as AnyDesk.
- Payment before you see the goods.
- Puppies, tickets and rentals paid for in advance by Cash App are a common loss.
If you clicked, called or paid

- In the app, and check the phone number and email on your account are yours.

- At ReportFraud.ftc.gov in the US. Be wary of anyone who then offers to recover the money.

The official way to check
- Contact support from inside the app.
- Tap your profile, then Support. Not a number from a search or a message.
- Look at Activity.
- A real hold or payment shows in the app’s Activity, not only in a text.
