Advance Auto Parts data breach settlement
Yes. The Advance Auto Parts data breach settlement is real: a $10 million class action settlement in federal court, District of Montana, run by Kroll Settlement Administration. Payments to people who filed a valid claim have been sent.
Final approval was granted on October 23, 2025; the administrator says payments for approved claims were issued on February 5, 2026 and uncashed checks became void after May 6, 2026.
Is it real?
Yes. The case is In re: Snowflake, Inc. Data Security Breach Litigation (relates to Advance Auto Parts, Inc. and Advance Stores Company, Incorporated), case number 2:24-md-03126-BMM-JTJ, in the US District Court for the District of Montana. The court appointed Kroll Settlement Administration to run it, and its only official site is aapdatasettlement.com.
How the real notice reached people. Kroll sent an Email Notice on June 11, 2025 to 2,278,278 addresses (subject line 'Email Notice of Proposed Class Action Settlement'), a follow-up email on June 22, 2025, and first-class postcards to people whose email bounced (610,063 mailed July 22, 2025). Each notice carried a unique 'Class Member ID', which Kroll says was used to curtail fraud and was required to file online. The filed exemplar email leaves the From address blank, so the sender address is not published. The site says it is 'the only authorized website for this case'. Payment emails came from [email protected] (Zelle), [email protected] (PayPal) and [email protected] (Venmo).
To tell a real message from a scam:
- The only official site is aapdatasettlement.com.Type it into your browser yourself rather than tapping a link. Claim pages on news and lawyer-advertising sites, and lookalike addresses, are not the administrator.
- Filing costs nothing. No real settlement charges a fee to file a claim or to release a payment. Anyone asking for one is running a scam.
- Nobody needs your passwords. The administrator never asks for your Advance Auto Parts password, your online banking login or a code texted to you. Payment details go only into the claim form on aapdatasettlement.com.
- Check by phone. If you aren’t sure a message is real, call the administrator on (833) 420-3832, the number on aapdatasettlement.com, not one in the message.
- Claims have closed. The deadline was 8 October 2025. A message now urging you to file a new claim, or to pay or “verify” your bank details to receive money, is a warning sign. Check on aapdatasettlement.com instead.

The breach, and what to do today
An unauthorized party got into Advance Auto Parts' Snowflake cloud data storage, which held records on job applicants and current and former employees. Advance Auto says it discovered the access on or about May 23, 2024 and began notifying people on July 10, 2024. It was part of the wider 2024 Snowflake customer-account breaches.
What was exposed: names; email addresses; mailing addresses; dates of birth; driver's license numbers; Social Security numbers; demographic details.

A settlement pays for what already happened. The data is still out there, so do these now:
- Freeze your credit. In the US it’s free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and no one can open credit in your name while it’s on. Lift it for a day when you apply for credit yourself.
- Get an IRS Identity Protection PIN.It stops anyone filing a tax return in your name with your Social Security number. Request one at irs.gov/ippin.
- Distrust messages about Advance Auto Parts and this settlement.Breach data is used to make scam messages personal enough to believe, for years afterwards. Go to the company or the official site yourself.
