California Casualty data breach settlement
Yes. The California Casualty data breach settlement is real: a class action settlement in the Superior Court for San Joaquin County, California, run by Simpluris. Claims are open until 16 November 2026, on cacasualtydatasettlement.com only.
The administrator lists a claim deadline of 11/16/2026 and a final approval hearing on 12/4/2026; opt-out and objection deadlines (11/4/2026) have passed.
Is it real?
Yes. The case is Mohammed Amin, et al. v. California Casualty Indemnity Exchange d/b/a California Casualty Group, case number STK-CV-UBT-2026-0003331, in the Superior Court for San Joaquin County, California. The court appointed Simpluris to run it, and its only official site is cacasualtydatasettlement.com.
How the real notice reached people. The site lists a Notification Mailing on 8/17/2026, so notice went by mail. The notice carries a LoginID and PIN needed for the online claim form; people who can't find them can email the administrator with their full name and mailing address. The site says that receiving notice means California Casualty's records show you are a Class Member. No scam warning is published; the FAQ says not to contact the Court or Clerk.
To tell a real message from a scam:
- The only official site is cacasualtydatasettlement.com.Type it into your browser yourself rather than tapping a link. Claim pages on news and lawyer-advertising sites, and lookalike addresses, are not the administrator.
- Filing costs nothing. No real settlement charges a fee to file a claim or to release a payment. Anyone asking for one is running a scam.
- Nobody needs your passwords. The administrator never asks for your California Casualty password, your online banking login or a code texted to you. Payment details go only into the claim form on cacasualtydatasettlement.com.
- Check by phone. If you aren’t sure a message is real, call the administrator on (833) 360-6751, the number on cacasualtydatasettlement.com, not one in the message.
Who qualifies
All living individuals residing in the United States whose personal information was impacted in the data breach California Casualty discovered in September 2025, including everyone who received notice of the breach. Excludes California Casualty and its related companies, anyone who opts out, the judge and staff, and anyone who carried out the attack.
It covers people in the United States only. If you live elsewhere, you are not part of it, whatever a message says.
How much
There is no single settlement fund: each valid claim is paid on its own, up to the limits below.
| Benefit | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Out-of-Pocket Losses | up to $4,000.00 | actual, documented losses from the incident that occurred between September 2, 2025 and November 16, 2026; proof such as bank statements or receipts; self-made notes alone are not enough |
| Alternate Cash Payment | one-time $50.00 | instead of the out-of-pocket loss payment; no proof needed |
| Credit Monitoring Services | two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete | includes $1 million financial fraud insurance; claimed on the claim form |
An amount marked estimated or pro rata changes with the number of valid claims: more claims, smaller shares. Losses need proof, such as receipts or bank statements.

The breach, and what to do today
In September 2025 a targeted cyberattack hit the computer systems of California Casualty Indemnity Exchange (California Casualty Group), and files containing private information were accessed. California Casualty discovered the breach in September 2025.
What was exposed: names; medical information; taxpayer identification numbers; dates of birth; Social Security numbers; passport numbers; financial account numbers or payment card numbers.
A settlement pays for what already happened. The data is still out there, so do these now:
- Freeze your credit. In the US it’s free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and no one can open credit in your name while it’s on. Lift it for a day when you apply for credit yourself.
- Get an IRS Identity Protection PIN.It stops anyone filing a tax return in your name with your Social Security number. Request one at irs.gov/ippin.
- Watch your statements.Look for small charges you don’t recognise and report them to your bank. Ask for a new card if a full card number leaked.
- Read your health insurance statements.Check each Explanation of Benefits for care you never had, and tell your insurer if you find any. Medical records can’t be changed like a password.
- Distrust messages about California Casualty and this settlement.Breach data is used to make scam messages personal enough to believe, for years afterwards. Go to the company or the official site yourself.
To see which other breaches your email address is in, search it on Have I Been Pwned, then read Breaches.

The administrator and the court had not published these when HARD checked on 8 November 2026, so this page doesn’t guess:
- When payments will be sent.
- How many people are in the settlement.
