Lakeview data breach settlement

From Settlements, in the HARD wiki · Updated
This article is about the class action settlement over the Lakeview data breach. For every settlement, see Settlements.

Yes. The Lakeview data breach settlement is real: a $26 million class action settlement in federal court, Southern District of Florida, run by Kroll Settlement Administration. The claim deadline, 22 June 2026, has passed and the judge approved the settlement on 8 July 2026. Payments have not been sent yet.

The court granted final approval and the administrator says benefits will go out in the coming weeks after the appeals period expires; it asks people to be patient.

Is it real?

Yes. The case is In re Lakeview Loan Servicing Data Breach Litigation, case number 1:22-cv-20955-GAYLES (docketed as 1:22-cv-20955-DPG), in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The court appointed Kroll Settlement Administration to run it, and its only official site is lakeviewdatabreachsettlement.com.

How the real notice reached people. Under the Settlement Agreement's Notice Plan, a Short Form (postcard) Notice was mailed by regular US mail where addresses were available and emailed where email addresses were available, plus the long form notice on the settlement website and a targeted digital ad campaign. Each notice carried a Class Member ID (the claim form calls it a 'Unique Identifier', found 'on the postcard or Email Notice'); IDs in the court's opt-out exhibit are 13-character codes starting 8334. The site calls itself 'the only authorized website for this case' and says it is controlled by the court-approved administrator; it publishes no specific scam warning or email sender address.

To tell a real message from a scam:

  1. The only official site is lakeviewdatabreachsettlement.com.Type it into your browser yourself rather than tapping a link. Claim pages on news and lawyer-advertising sites, and lookalike addresses, are not the administrator.
  2. Filing costs nothing. No real settlement charges a fee to file a claim or to release a payment. Anyone asking for one is running a scam.
  3. Nobody needs your passwords. The administrator never asks for your Lakeview password, your online banking login or a code texted to you. Payment details go only into the claim form on lakeviewdatabreachsettlement.com.
  4. Check by phone. If you aren’t sure a message is real, call the administrator on (833) 754-5757, the number on lakeviewdatabreachsettlement.com, not one in the message.
  5. Claims have closed. The deadline was 22 June 2026. A message now urging you to file a new claim, or to pay or “verify” your bank details to receive money, is a warning sign. Check on lakeviewdatabreachsettlement.com instead.

The breach, and what to do today

A cybersecurity incident that began on October 11, 2021 gave someone unauthorized access to files on the mortgage servicers' systems that may have included personal information. Bayview, Lakeview, Pingora and Community Loan Servicing sent breach letters to affected people between March 2022 and November 2022. Who did it is not named in the settlement papers.

What was exposed: personally identifiable information ("PII"); the settlement notice and website do not list the specific data types.

A settlement pays for what already happened. The data is still out there, so do these now:

  1. Read the breach letter you were sent.It says which of your details were exposed. If it names your Social Security number, freeze your credit: in the US it’s free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
  2. Distrust messages about Lakeview and this settlement.Breach data is used to make scam messages personal enough to believe, for years afterwards. Go to the company or the official site yourself.

To see which other breaches your email address is in, search it on Have I Been Pwned, then read Breaches.

Not published yet

The administrator and the court had not published these when HARD checked on 7 November 2026, so this page doesn’t guess:

  • How much each person’s cash payment will be. It depends on how many people claim.
  • When payments will be sent.
  • Exactly which details were exposed: the settlement papers describe it only as personal information.
